How do you mistake a sleeping man for a dead body?

In June 2024, residents in Hanamkonda, India, noticed a man lying motionless in a pond.

He stayed there for hours.

By around noon, people had become concerned enough to call the police, believing they were looking at a body.

An officer eventually reached the man and grabbed his hand to pull him toward shore.

He suddenly woke up.

The man was a granite worker who said he had been working 12-hour shifts nearby.

Exhausted from the long hours and heat, he had entered the water to cool off and rest.

Reports said he had remained there for roughly five hours.

Some news outlets reported that alcohol was involved, although the man reportedly denied being drunk and said he was simply exhausted.

For everyone watching from shore, five quiet hours had looked like something far worse.

Turns out, the person everyone thought they needed to recover just needed to wake up.
