A new baby, a cherished name, and a growing family legacy — Whoopi Goldberg surprised audiences Monday morning with heartwarming news: she’s a great-grandmother again.
During a live taping of The View, the 70-year-old Hollywood legend, EGOT winner, and beloved host shared the intimate milestone on air.
Glowing with pride, Goldberg revealed that her grandson, Mason Dean, and his girlfriend, Hylee Whitley, welcomed a daughter over the weekend.
“I’m going to start out today because I have some fun news from over the weekend,” Goldberg told her cohosts before unveiling the joyful announcement.
The newest family member? A precious baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces — already melting hearts.
Goldberg shared a treasured family snapshot on air. “That’s Lotus, and [that’s] Ruby [the dog]. That’s her dad, my grandson Mason,” she said, smiling proudly.
Cheers and hugs followed from the panel. The celebration also honored Goldberg’s only daughter, Alex Martin, now a grandmother of two. Co-host Sunny Hostin gushed over Mason cradling his newborn: “He looks in love. He absolutely does.” Goldberg quipped back with humor: “Yeah, that’ll change.”
The baby’s name, Lotus Dean, sparked a social media frenzy. Fans shared heartfelt congratulations and praised the name.
Goldberg clarified her title for her great-grandchildren: “No, they call me Whoopi, because I’m not the grandma, I’m the great-grandma! So just Whoopi.”
Sara Haines added humor, recalling Goldberg’s first great-grandchild — now 11 — who struggled with her Ws, calling her “Oopi.” Goldberg laughed: “We’ll see what this one calls me, but I think she’s ready to get stuff done.”
